Petitions and the Petition Process

Ballot Initiatives are citizen led petitions to amend, rewrite, or add to the body of laws of the State of Utah outside the standard legislative process. Use the buttons below to review the Utah State statutes that govern this process and learn more about filing a petition.

Ballot Referendums are citizen led petitions to require a new law, type of action, or tax increase to be placed on the ballot and voted on before it can be implemented. Use the buttons below to review the Utah State statutes that govern this process and learn more about filing a referendum.

Utah Utah Code Annotated 20A-7-205 and Utah Administrative Rule R623-4-5 allows a citizen to remove their signature from a petition they have previously signed.

An individual that wishes to do does not have to give a reason for the removal of their signature. However, they are required to identify which petition they want their signature removed from. They cannot request a blanket removal.

Contact the Utah County Elections Division at (801) 851-8130 for information on how to do this correctly.
